Summer barbeques are fun. Your family and friends gather in your yard. The kids run around and play. The adults cook, serve the food and then sit and talk.

Summary

The prevalent theory regarding violence making people more aggressive and likely to be violent was tested in an

experiment conducted by Bruce D. Bartholow, Brad J. Bushman and Marc A. Sestir in the Department of

Psychology, University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. The theory regarding playing violent video games and that

seeing violent acts desensitizes them and makes them aggressive and likely to commit violent acts against others.

Many previous studies have seemingly confirmed this to be true. This study was set up using voluntary male

students who were recruited by offering them college credits for participating. Their reaction to seeing violent

pictures was measured by the amplitude of P300 that was the measure of reaction in the brain in response to violent

scenes as measured in reference to a certain specific amplitude of brain waves as evidenced by (ERP or

event-related potential). It was thought that the results would show higher measurements when exposed to aversive

pictures. They included a level of horrific scenes such as the rotting corpse of a dog.

It was expected that the subjects who were exposed to more violent scenes would be desensitized and have a less

severe reaction to future violent pictures. The scientists theorized that those subjects who played more violent

video games would be desensitized by media violence. This would be proven if the subjects exposed to more

violent video games would be more aggressive towards others than the group who were not exposed to violent

video games. This would be evidenced by the violent exposure group being more aggressive than the control group

who were less desensitized. This would be proved by measuring voltage amplitude (P300 was the norm) and an

electroencephalogram (EEG) was the method used to evaluate the information processing brain activity.

The study was set up using 39 male students with similar characteristics. One group was exposed to the violent

video games and the control group was not. It was expected that those in the group playing more violent video

games would be more aggressive as a result. The level of their aggression would be indicated by how stongly they

inflicted a loud noise to the other students working on a task with them. The task was fabricated to hide the real

purpose of what the scientists were assessing. I would call it a single blind study.

During the task to measure aggression, the students wore electrode caps that recorded their level of aggression

by measuring brain activity. This was after playing violent video games and as they viewed the violent pictures.

The results of this research study linked violence to a specific level of brain activity, as measured by brain wave

activity, in response to seeing violent pictures, accident victims and the dead dog mentioned earlier. This was done

to evaluate the subjects level of desensitization. The subjects who regularly played violent video games were more

strongly motivated to be aggressive. They were likely to administer the loud noise to fellow students for a longer

time period as a sign of their aggression. (It is understood that they didn’t know the noise level and duration were

controlled by computers rather than by their actions in pressing buttons.

The scientists conducting this research concluded that it seemed to support what was predicted; that exposure to

violence in the form of playing video games over a long period of time resulted in a significantly higher level of

aggression towards others in comparison to the control group.

Just as the mention of opera brings Luciano Pavarotti to mind, the name Santiago Calatrava is inextricably intertwined with the mention of modern architecture.

Tourists from around the world and any resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the US is familiar with the Calatrava addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum located on the Lake Michigan shore. Most people love it, some ridicule it, but no one is indifferent to this magnificent structure.

It is an addition to the older, grayer Milwaukee Art Museum, and some say that it isn't a good match. It may not blend into the older building; it sets itself apart as a glowing white masterpiece reaching out and up. It scoops up the fluid lines of nature and gives wing to Calatrava’s expression of mother earth.

The original buildings known as the Milwaukee Art Museum were designed by architect Eero Saarinen in 1957. In 1994, the director of the Milwaukee Art Museum commissioned Calatrava to design the new addition. This was his first project in the U.S. The pristine whiteness of his creation is like a winged creation poised over the blue expanse of Lake Michigan. It enhances the shore and connects the lake to the city itself by way of the Reiman Bridge. This pedestrian bridge leads visitors from the downtown area consisting of hotels, restaurants and shopping to the shore and the entrance to the Calatrava addition.

The sheer beauty of the distinctive “fins” set on top of the addition have been called both wings and waves. Either term connects them to nature. Wings to the clouds or waves on the lake, they are a breathtaking vision to visitors.

But they extend beyond aesthetics; they are a movable construct made of 72 steel fins that can be adjusted to control temperature and light inside the entrance hall. The Brise Soleil is 217 feet wide and weighs 90 tons.

An architect will see the Brise Soleil as a masterpiece of form and function. An artist will be overwhelmed by its beauty. A small child might look up at his mother and ask, “Mommy, do you think it might fly away?”

Calatrava’s early career as a builder of bridges is evident in Spain, the rest of Europe and the world. Naturally, when plans were being made in 1999 to raise funds to build bridges spanning the Trinity River in Dallas, his name came up. He was awarded the design project in 2004, and a ground-breaking ceremony took place in 2005.

Now, four years later, we find that the necessary steel has been shipped in from Italy and is awaiting inspection procedures. This first bridge in a planned parcel of three will have a center arch with the equivalent height of a 40-story building. What a marvelous addition to the Dallas skyline it will be, whenever it is finished.

As of April 2009, it hasn't started so it won’t be finished by the projected July 2009 completion date. As Murphy’s Law says, stuff happens. In this case, the “stuff” was a lack of steel, plus safety concerns over sandy deposits on the river bottom into which construction crews planned to embed the pilings. The delay in building the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge seems advisable and necessary.

The completion date is expected to be sometime in 2011. Calatrava's “Bridge over Dallas Waters" will be a sight worth waiting to see.

The Best Seller That Resides In A Corner of My Brain

I have about a dozen plots roaming through my thoughts from time to time. The most prominent one takes place in a hospital setting and ends in divorce court and the target of my animosity losing all his worldly goods.

It has the main characters of a plastic surgeon who is a gifted surgeon but sorely lacking in providing the slighted scintilla of emotional support to his patients. He has a genius IQ but is clueless when it comes to being cognizant of anyone having importance except himself.

Along the way, his patients both male and female are emotionally destroyed by his acceptance of requests for unnecessary procedures and other various poor judgement calls on his part. The ending doesn't kill him off but extracts a little revenge in the area of financial status.

Would be such fun to write and wouldn't be expected to be anything but the slushy little romance novel with some gratuitous sex thrown in. (gotta sell it somehow). But woe is me, I'm not going to spend all those hours writing something I'm not going to be sure of getting paid for. Hell, if I want to be ripped off timewise, all I have to do is sell my writing for peanuts on GAF.

My other story ideas have great depth, I'm not ALWAYS shallow. lol

Ignorance Would have been bliss

A description of an astonished reaction to the blatant misuse of power and political position at the expense of almost everyone except the politically powerful, lobbyists and the billionaire bunch who are the power behind the scene.

Here we are again handing out money to the "haves" at the expense of future generations who will become the "never gonna haves." I try not to feel resentful after all I have food and a roof. My family is doing well. But what about those people who have lost their houses. Yes, yes I realize they should have known the rule that only 30% of a family's income should be used for housing. But when a banker (some people are in awe of the knowledge a banker is supposed to possess) is offering you a house which is after all the American dream, it is difficult to say no. Balloon payment at the end? Uh what does that mean? It means the banker led you into an impossible situation with a promise and a smile.

Wake up dude. Your American dream has come to an end.

But you won't be feeling lonely. Many others are in the process of following in your unfortunate footsteps. Isn't it interesting that when we don't balance our checking accounts correctly we are punished via overdraft fees. Isn't it even more interesting that when the bankers who punished us via overdraft fees don't balance their bank accounts - they get million dollar bonuses. Welfare for the CEO's. All their advantageous educations put together and they can't balance the books. But of course bonuses are still given. WHY WHY WHY WHY?

Once again I stand before you - a confused person who although she can balance her checkbook didn't get a million dollar bonus. What did I do wrong. Should I have screwed someone over who is more gullible than me like the bankers did? Am I not as smart as they are. Maybe I am and maybe I'm not - but I am smart enough to realize there is nothing I can do to help - change - alleviate the unfathomable disaster our country is quagmired in.

I am terribly confused about one thing. When counterfeiters print money with nothing but paper value to validate it they go to prison. When the US prints money with nothing but paper value - it continues to be justified and then they print more. I don't know about the rest of middle America but I'm smart enough to be scared - but not smart enough to know what to do about it.

Some clients who come to you will have minimal resources. Others will have more than they realize. Even those with few are bound to have one or two that you as a person can admire. They may be difficult to recognize but you must find them in order to help the client recognize them. Something has motivated the client to come to you asking for help. It could be that he's sick and tired of being homeless, underemployed, dumped by his fourth girl friend in a year or his dog died cause he couldn't afford a vet. It could well be something more dramatic or frightening. When you discover the reason you'll know how to motivate him.

Building from one or two admirable traits or qualities he need not become perfect or suddenly earn a thousand pounds a year. The main goal can be getting a job, any job and attending every day. If you can motivate him to use one of his formerly "hidden" resources you can start him on a road to unearthing and using others. Your hope for him becomes his own hope for himself.

Each client, regardless of how badly a lack of coping strategies has affected his current situation, will possess some attributes upon which you and he together can put into action a plan to improve upon and rebuild his life. Currently the client will be at a place in life that he wishes to elevate himself from. Without some hope he would not be here in your office asking for help. Whatever that impetus for seeking help was, identifying it will provide insight into how you can best interject his own resources into a plan for improvement.

It is true that some individuals have limited resources for coping with a life imbued with problems. It is your job as therapist to discover what they are. This will enable you to bring forth a sense of empowerment within the client. At the time he recognises positive qualities within himself, you have interjected his problematic life situation with the one thing he most needs. That one thing - is hope. You must discover attributes within your client that you can admire and thus help the client to discovery of the fact that he has admirable qualities. Then together you can build on those qualities until the client begins to utilise them to his own benefit.

NOTE: It is my intention to use "his" in a non-gender identifying manner simply to avoid extraneous words. I in no way elevate "he" over "she."

Voicing the hope that President Obama will want to and be able to stem this type of repulsive greed at a time when many people have lost their jobs and homes.

It's as if those greedy executives are laughing at the middle class taxpayers of America.

What they did isn't all that surprising. What is astonishing though is how blatantly they did it.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned.

Merrill-Lynch redecorates while the taxpayers do a slow burn.

Common sense is down the drain again. I guess "covert" rather than "overt" disregard for the taxpayers isn't in their repertoire. Did ya hear the one about the $35,000 commode that was part of a million dollar redecoration project that was done "after" the bailout money was given. Borrowed. Yea right. All that money spent while some folks can't afford to purchase toilet paper much less purchase a new commode. Or was it a piece of furniture type of commode? Either way, $35,000 is too expensive under the circumstances.

Accountability was said to have been a big part of the plan to rejuvenate the economy. If the executives want luxury in their offices let them pay the bills themselves. I suggested the execs (white collar criminals come to mind) should give back some of their bonus money. I had the fam rolling in the aisles in laughter with that idea. Ok, I get it, not gonna happen no way.

But aren't they stepping over any reasonable line drawn in the sand when they take tax money, spend a million dollars to decorate one office suite and then come back holding their hands out for more government money. These are the same miscreants who used to scream loudly about the poor little welfare mother who subsisted on $450.00 a month. These dudes could care less that George W. used inaction to promote Social Darwinism down in New Orleans.

To those who would argue that it was the State managed National Guard who didn't respond because the Louisiana Governor had to first request help from the Federal Government. People drowning, sitting on roofs for a week and babies dying for lack of formula was the situation down in New Orleans. Not the appropriate time for the government to observe PROTOCOL. To those who say the people should have gotten out while they could. I say, "Shoulda, woulda, coulda, so what."

If a fire breaks out while the fire chief is on vacation should the other firemen say, "Well protocol in this town dictates that we can't unroll the hoses unless the chief gives the order."

I thought the worst had happened when someone wouldn't pay me $8. At least I got to keep my articles that time and now use them for samples. Tonight I ascertained for sure that my exact 7 credit related articles are on someone's blog. I am irate. Writing repeatedly for a guy through GAF. Not much money but what else is new on GAF.

Three of the seven articles turned out really fun to read. There were 5 others I had sent him but those showed no results on copyscape so I published on Triond. Gee I should recover my loss in about 10-15 years.

Anyways, I'm not writing anything again till the money is escrowed in GAF. It just takes so long to transfer it to Paypal before I can shop with it. This buyer seemed very normal and decent. I should re evaluate my own judgement I suppose.

Do the positive writing experiences make up for the bad ones? Time for another break from it. Good thing my personal life is going great. I wonder what will happen now. I've written to the blog owner who published my articles. It's only his fault if he's the buyer who DIDN'T PAY ME.

A few days ago I ran out of work and sent out an offer to my client list. Well I have been working frantically ever since. I just completed a project that I under bid on. This wonderful buyer offered to add $10 to my pay. He is one of the good guys. I put so much into my writing and sometimes someone notices. Why are copywriters undervalued. Must be the dollar writers in India. Well anyways I appreciate this nice guy in Kuala Lampur or is it Lumpur.

On to 5 pet articles and then one guy who said he had a pile of work for me - he meant it. I turned down an offer to edit but hope to fit in some party information next week. Tomorrow I party no matter how much work is put on hold.

Life can be good. Seems like I can Christmas shop without going further into debt.

A Little Agression Can Be Good

Yesterday I ran out of projects. Oh well a writer is supposed to feel rejected. Trouble is I love the writing. Being paid for it satisfies me. I did write my comment article on Barack Obama's election. There I was wringing my hands and thinking "woe is me."

I decided to send out an email offering my writing to all my current clients. Instead of thinking I am so memorable that they should all be offering me projects I accept the truth that there are many talented writers (of which I count myself one) and many write cheaper than I do. Well the response was excellent.

Today I'm doing a sales campaign. Tomorrow I have a 5 article project about pets, I did one previously from the same buyer and loved it. Then I just got an email this morning saying someone had "a pile of work for me."

He is sending it right now after making sure I was still interested. I feel really refuvenated as a writer. Opportunity does not come a knocking because there are too many writers willing to write for low pay. Even without many chances to make ten cents a word, in fact few to make .03 cents a word, I'm content. There are many other good writers in the same situation as me.

Besides, I need to start shopping for Christmas and hope to cover all gifts with my writing money.:)

This is a momentous occasion in our country's history. We'll all talk of this to our grandchildren. Obama has been charismatic and when Colin Powell endorsed him - he was a shoe in.

John McCain, always respected as a war hero and senator was campaigning under the shadow of eight years of George W. Governor Sarah Palin is a great speaker yet not seasoned enough in foreign affairs especially - for these dangerous times. To anyone who has not listened to McCain's concession speech, it is a masterpiece of the exhibition of human decency, sincerity and patriotism.

Barack Obama will make errors, he isn't the new messiah, but with good advisors and the common sense he seems to exude I expect him to steer America on a new and safer path towards betterment of the people with the assistance of the people. If this does not propel acceptance and new friendships or at least congeniality between the races - that an African American has been voted in by ALL races - including those middle-aged white ladies who sometimes clutched their purses in response to seeing a black man walking towards them - then nothing will.

Maybe the next generation of people will be assigned a category of American of African descent or an American of German descent. Perhaps people will begin to realize that in spite of the terrorists of the world - not all Muslims have the mindset of terrorists. President Elect Obama leads the parade towards cohesion of all races and groups of Americans. One flag, one people to present a united face to the rest of the world. After all, he's about to become the leader of the free world.

Everything I write has a defensive or sarcastic sound. It was going well yet now it bores me. Why is it I can only want what I can't have. Pointless.

Writing pointless comments, pointless articles, receiving pointless compliments from people who are as full of baloney as I am to them. Pointless. What do I want, will I ever get it and would I still want it if I did. Are we all victims of our earliest experiences and that determines either our enjoyment of whatever we can have or pointlessly longing for what we can't.

Of course compliments are great but it was money I wanted. Not like twenty-five cents an hour from stingy little schmucks who want brilliance (and punctuation too) for what is equal to one tiny level above NOTHING.

Everyone was hopefully waiting to hear good news that the child Julian (only 7 years old) was found alive and safe. At this moment the news announcement at a press conference in Chicago states that a white SUV was found minutes ago with the body of a male child dead inside.

All the emotional pain in the world is magnified when the victim is a child. Seven, the age of eagerly awaiting "trick or treating" and the joy and excitement of Christmas. His candle extinguished before it could burn down even one-tenth of the way.

Sympathy from around the world will come to Jennifer Hudson on the loss of her mother and brother. Heartfelt sympathy to her and her sister on their loss. To her sister, who fervently pleaded for her son's life - what can comfort her in the slightest way...

When someone has severe financial difficulties to face in life it can cause bitterness and result in the individual lashing out in vitriolic faux hatred toward whoever causes the slightest turnmoil in his life. I would never consider myself too good to write blogs and in fact once agreed to write for only $2.00 per article. However, it would be foolish to do so when I'm offered higher rates.

As a humble copywriter and a kind person I would never assume an air of superiority in any facet of my life. I wouldn't deliberately cause stress for another person. Currently

Working as a humble copywriter I have not only been left unpaid, but had my integrity questioned by the suggestion I sent someone else's writing in place of my own. After being advised to read a specific website for information to include in articles for this particular buyer, I used said information and was rudely told that there is no such thing as a vpn. There is - and it is referred to on the website I was told to gather information from.

I originally agreed to write for peanuts in return for learning more about this specific topic along the way. It was clearly understood that my first works would require editing. Editing - not ridiculing. I may have used the reference to vpn awkwardly - but am in no way dishonest - AND - I will not be treated as such.

I agreed to write on the specific topic for a low rate since it was understood I was in a learning phase and would be edited. Once again I am left unpaid - a trifling amount - but it's MY trifling amount. I have published the articles here on my blog. No malice is intended - only the protection of my rights in making sure they wouldn't pass copyscape.

Unless and until I receive a somewhat groveling apology for having my integrity maligned - and $8.00 - they'll remain published. I in no way claim the articles in contention were my usual high quality work but it was understood before I wrote them that I was in learning phase on the topic.

From Texas To Singapore

I was hired to write a promotional article for an engineer who was in a competition along with other members of his volunteer group. They were competing for a prestigious award given yearly within the company. We contracted for a nickel a word and he sent the specific details of what the article should contain. Since he was a new client (although referred to me by a long time client) I emailed him daily with the article, offering to make any changes he requested. He returned the emails with compliments and no request for changes of any kind.

He accepted the article and asked if he could call on me again. He was pleased. I was pleased. The final cost of the article was $50.00. A week later, in response to my request for payment he said he was sorry but the "committee" had only authorized a $20.00 payment because they had changed their minds and used a slide presentation instead of an article.

"Would that be acceptable Jeana?"

I politely responded that no it wouldn't and perhaps he would pay the additional $30.00 with his own funds.

I never heard from him again. Until...

After advising him of my intentions without response, I contacted the Texas Headquarters of which his Singapore Offices were a branch. To make a two-month long story short they must have liaised with his boss in the Singapore office. I received payment of $50.00 along with an apology for it having taken so long.

The Texas office had originally said they didn't have an employee listed with that email address. I guess he used his personal email. At their request I had sent sufficient details and a copy of the article. This whole debacle took over two months. I sent him a brief thank you for payment and we parted company - never to interact again I'm sure.

He requested the article which I had temporarily published on google to protect my rights. I then deleted it from google docs. End of story.

This is not a situation I enjoy reliving. I am only a humble copywriter - however - I won't be conveniently ripped off - at least not without a fight.

When someone has severe financial difficulties to face in life it can cause bitterness and result in the individual lashing out in vitriolic faux hatred toward whoever causes the slightest turnmoil in his life. I would never consider myself too good to write blogs and in fact once agreed to write for only $2.00 per article. However, it would be foolish to do so when I'm offered higher rates.

As a humble copywriter and a kind person I would never assume an air of superiority in any facet of my life. I wouldn't deliberately cause stress for another person. Once upon a time there was a family named Argggh. Mr. Argggh was an insurance executive. He wasn't an honest or fair minded insurance executive. He was a greedy insurance executive. He was in fact - the antithesis to Robin Hood of rob from the rich give to the poor fame.

He controlled pension money and invested it. He wasn't a very good investor either. The people who worked for his insurance company had pension money. Poof! Now they don't.

Poor Mr. Argggh. How much investment money did he lose? No math skills huh? Maybe you can grow up to be an executive and handle other people's money too.

Daddy government did feel sorry for Mr. Argggh and his family who now have to get by on only a million a month. Daddy government helped him out. But Daddy government didn't know that Mr.Argggh hadn't had his vacation yet. After saying a polite thank you - Mr. Argggh and his company executives (also without honor or math skills) took a vacation - on government money in the amount of $400,000. What they couldn't find a Motel 6?

See the jobs. See the jobs people are losing. See the jobs. See the jobs the insurance executives are keeping and scraping by on only a million a month with. They know how to overcome the tragic economic situation. They don't use their own golden parachute money to go on vacation. They use bail out money. It seems sensible to them since - Daddy government will always come through to bail them out.

Once upon the same time there was a family named Sucker. Mr. Sucker was a an office manager in the same insurance company. He was an honest office manager. He was not a Robin Hood since he was too honest to steal from anybody.

Mr. Sucker entrusted his pension money to the insurance company. Mr. Sucker was a thrifty office manager. He saved and saved for his retirement. He had amassed what was to him a lot of cash. Poof! Now it's gone.

Daddy government still required him to pay taxes each payday. Mr. Sucker got by in spite of the rising cost of living. He had excellent math skills. No wonder he had less money than Mr. Argggh. The government was a reverse Robin Hood to him. His excellent math skills told him he couldn't afford a vacation. Mr. Sucker knew since his money was depleted he should skip a vacation this year.

He didn't whine to Daddy government to bail him out. "Boo hoo, I've lost my life savings and need a vacation."

He didn't take a vacation and send the bill to Daddy government.

See the jobs. See the people who are losing the jobs. See the insurance company executives who are keeping the jobs. Theorize. Theorize as to who Daddy government should give a helping hand to. Then theorize as to who Daddy government WILL give a helping hand to.

These filthy rich insurance executives should be lined up in front of a firing squad and shot for treason for using bail out money (which will be financed by people like Mr. Sucker) to take a $400,000 vacation (AKA retreat). The entire country is in a state of panic because of them and others like them. They must be overwhelmed with shame. It must be they needed a vacation to sooth their shame.

Perhaps this time - they will get TWO slaps on the wrist...

Today is good!

You know how it is when you've wrapped up an article and know it's dynamite. I just had one of those experiences. Mercenary meets artist in my writing efforts. Sure I must like the topic. If I am enthralled with it, even better.

But weighing the differences. Bad topic - high pay versus favored topic - low pay, would cause me to decide with caution. I could still use one more sporadic higher paying client. I do have one I'm keeping and she wants to keep me also. However, I only touched on the subject of needing more money and she'll be a tough nut to crack on that.

Very clever at delay tactics as the escrowed amount is near. Never has been unfair or neglected to pay me. Really didn't want to do all 2,500 descriptions but it might pay off in the future.

Another writer will understand how good it feels to have solidly completed an article or project that you know is deserving of high praise and more money.

I've been drawn back into the brokering business as a favor to a friend. Hope it works out well. Really pathetic pay but the writer accepted it. I've been drawn to an advertising bid. One headline - fifty dollars. Now that's my idea of fair pay. Like I used to win bonuses irl at one job. I'm thinking of ideas and will wake up in the morning with at least one brilliant one. Now if the buyer and I have the same definition of brilliant - I have $50.

Hi World,

Today was a satisfying day. Finished last golf blog. Only knowledge I retain is that US won the Ryder Cup Championship.

The writing I did enjoy was on the Sudoku Puzzles. Fun topic.

Plus everything in my rentals is clarified with everyone and things will now proceed smoothly. I feel able to relax for the first week since Labor Day weekend. Now if only the Halloween project I'm doing will end. Surely she can't extend it way into October. A contract is a contract but OMG it is the most boring thing I've done in recent memory.

Today would have been my mom's birthday celebration if she were still alive. No one should pass away at a young age. Sometimes I still reach for the phone for our daily chat. Go figure.

It's hilarious to write for an audience of - myself. Sometime I'll have to network a little. I should post the link to my Halloween List. Golly gee I might make as much as $1.17 - that'll buy me a - nope can't think of anything it'll buy me that I want.

Yesterday I was in the depth of the pits of despair, literally. Thankfully I didn't alienate this new buyer I have. I was a little rude to him one time regarding low pay. He is great, if only as he says he may be able to do he can scrape up more money to pay better. For now I'm content writing for him. He isn't afraid to man up and admit when he's wrong. A landlord has three weeks after the end of the lease in which to return a security deposit (in my home state). In order to accommodate the mother of the previously mentioned student I had to evict, I returned her full deposit this morning. She had requested that due to her own budget. It cost her a fee to receive the money. It will cost me interest since I paid via PayPal with my Visa. card. Considering the stress her daughter caused - the mom should have been happy to receive it immediately. She knew I'd be using PayPal since I asked for her PP address. Instead she sent an email saying she would rather have waited for a check since she lost all that money. It was under $12.

She went on to vilify the new landlord because he would not give her ten free days before charging rent for October. The woman had the option of her daughter waiting to move till October 1st. Finally - she concluded the email by callling the new landlord a towel head. It was as if she knew how much prejudice offends me although I'm a lilly-white skinned Caucasion).

Borrowing a concept from the murder trial of the Menendez brothers, she's the type of individual who would kill her parents and then bitch about the fact that she was an orphan.

September Sorrows and It's Not Over Yet

I should have been forewarned when the first tenant had a wild beer party which included her sitting on the front steps soliciting drunken boys for phone numbers. Such a nice mother who pays her rent and would have been concerned to see little girl freshman cut loose out on her own for the first time. Confrontation, refreshing her memory of how I had firmly used the words "not a party house." Clear to me, clear to her mother not clear to little freshman girl.

Requested she move which is difficult for me to do since I'm basically kind. Negotiations with her mother, me suckered into giving her a second chance. Really wasn't wanting to lose money since the herd of available students has now thinned. Apologetic note accepted. One week later - party resumed. Drank the beer somewhere else at least, otherwise no difference.

In the words of Delores Claibourne, "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

Delores is a fictional character with more common sense then me. I am glad to have given the student a second chance though. My conscience is clear. Her mother lost money in the process and I'm sure was stressed as I was by the entire debacle.

Lack of adequate communication is at the root of many of life's problems. The mom understood the words "no party house" and all that the definition entailed. The daughter didn't. I wish her well but omg am I glad she is gone.

And September continues...

The aftermath of my venture into the world of business in the guise of being an article broker is the loss of a favorite buyer. Why didn't I appreciate him more, send his articles faster instead of sporadically. It wouldn't have mattered actually. As soon as he noticed I was trying to be a buyer he was lost to me. The man was a perfect buyer. He sent me work on a general subject, said do 8 or 10 articles on it, whichever I preferred and paid immediately. He wasn't going to make me rich - but then neither is anyone else.

He never criticized me once. Hell, I liked him better than my second husband.

Most buyers I've encountered were trying to rush me. No problem. At least I felt as if they wanted my writing.

When something seems to be too good to be true why oh why do I keep thinking maybe - against all odds - this time it will be beneficial. Judge Judy why have I not believed you?
Somewhat shockingly a buyer has not only "ordered" me to slow down but criticized me for writing about something that he himself didn't know about the topic.

After a week of voluminous praise to motivate me I've been accused of being not only too fast and sloppy and not bright enough for the seo work I would have greatly enjoyed doing - BUT - outright dishonesty. I wouldn't pass off someone else's work as mine. I do believe there's a word for that - plagiarism - as everyone knows. Besides ethics, I love my own writing too much.

Now I have the dilemma of choosing to make nice and go on following the carrot of higher earnings being dangled in front of me. Weigh the options - subservience and more money on one side - or a non-productive angry outburst of rightious indignation that will bounce off him like a harmless drop of water and he'll take his money elsewhere.

Hmmm. Faux subservience - make nice - make money? Or act out my anger?

I'll give myself time to decide. Hmmm what is more important - rebelling against my own insignificance or lounging comfortably on my new leather couch and love seat - sooner rather than later.

Yes - I'll give my insulted self at least a nanosecond. What's another emotionally painful episode in an already dysfunctional life...

From its origins in Walldorf, Germany in 1972, SAP has blossomed rapidly to the present state of having 44,500 installations in 120 countries with a monumental 10 million users. Five ex-IBM engineers convened to brainstorm and as good engineers love the process of "dreaming up" and formulating the dream into a practical and functional concept, they produced and perfected SAP. Founded in Germany it of course was given the Germanic name, Systeme, Andwendungen, Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung. To save you the stress of trying to pronounce that if you have no German language ability, the English translation is Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing.

SAP AG has grown to become the third largest software maker in existence not only in its native Germany, but worldwide. The reason for its burgeoning success is directly attributable to the introduction of SAP R/2 in 1979. This first integrated, enterprise wide software application was an overnight success. SAP R2 runs on mainframes and went on to penetrate the majority of large businesses in Germany. With expansion into other European companies the founders recognized the growing popularity of client-server architecture.

SAP recognized and responded to that market with the development and release of SAP R/3 in 1992. This brilliant program was welcomed with open arms by the business community. SAP R/3 evolved into an unprecedented success especially after expanding into the North American market beginning in 1988.

Five years later SAP R/3 had grown from zero to 44% of all SAP sales worldwide. Currently SAP America has 3,000 employees and can lay claim to having many of the Fortune 500 companies as clients. We could present a laundry list of recognizable names including 7 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies and 8 of the top 10 semiconductor corporations.

The significance of the numbers is readily understandable by even the most uninitiated in business concepts. Its popularity results from the ability to not only be a brilliant application but to its versatility and adaptability to a wide variety of businesses. One good example is the MIT implementation of modules in Finance/Accounting, Controlling, Project System, Funds Management, Materials Management and Sales Distribution.

Imagine for example, a global building materials corporation preparing an estimate on a major building renovation. More humble copywriter news. I bid on a project that paid a realistic amount for website copy. Good news was I was chosen to be on the short list (5). Bad news was I was number five on the short list after writing three sample sentences on introducing the website. I did receive a compliment and request to bid on his future projects with high probability of being given first consideration. That'll inflate my bank account...

I contracted for a certain amount, it was agreed to. Then when I submitted the article, he said it was rejected because a committee wanted a PowerPoint Presentation. I had no clue as to what that was (now know it's a slideshow which of course I would have been unable to undertake cause I have done one only and it was very amateurish).

The resemblance between a slideshow and an article is quite nonexistent except they both can be sent by email.

I'm going to a party and forget this happened. It's not like it's a tragedy or anything...

The Humble Copywriter

I suppose it was a rite of initiation that no copywriter escapes. Yes, I've been through rejection, many times. Not a problem, everyone can't like everyone else's writing even if it's because it's priced higher than the level of me paying them to let me write for them. Anyways, I haven't gone unpaid. Once, I almost was stiffed but just in time I published the articles myself in pay-per-click site I use. The 89 cents the five articles have earned for me since was only slightly lower than the promised payment. lol.

More later about the current situation relating to the article I published here to protect myself from someone using my work without payment. I'm ethical and intend to remain that way. I lost $50, he lost his own integrity.

More later about the reduced rate I was offered. I didn't recall putting my writing on the clearance rack so I declined his offer of $20. Was I foolish to give up partial payment? Don't know don't care...

Sunday Dinner

About noon I wrapped up part one of a month long project. With the help of someone I appreciate, I was able to scout out and fix a problem of my own creation. I hate it when that happens. I'd much rather it be someone else's fault. Anyways, part one of a biiiiig project is a wrap...

It's 83 here with a warm breeze. I love the hot weather. Anything under 90 suits me fine. I detest snow but cannot bear to move away from my family one of whom came to dinner. Did I cook, oh heck no, I ordered Chinese. It may seem rude but I told them at the restaurant they had to promise to cook the chicken fresh or I didn't want it. Delicious freshly cooked, reheated tastes like chicken flavored slime. Fortune cookie said, "Fortune will surely come your way."

What I want to know is - good fortune - or bad fortune.

Being a humble copywriter requires many things of me. When I'm inspired to write a pay per click article in response to inspiration and it's good, that rocks.

My recent foray into the realm of the buyer was hilarious. I thought if I can't underbid them - hire them. In the role of buyer humble isn't a good trait to have. After sorting through 85 bids, and reading endless samples I connected with three great writers. But lacking the time management skills of a total genius or the ability to give up sleeping, I exit stage left to return to what I'm passionate about. Once again, I write.

No more editing other people's writing or spending hours setting up a project for someone who has lied outright about what he expects for an infinitesimal amount of pay. (You don't get Franz Kafka or John Grisham for the same amount you get George Smith for). George who ????

Finally I blog, the title of my first blog post, made me start to laugh to myself. Who hasn't seen Bill Murray in "What About Bob." I can visualize that marvelous scene where he was tied to the mast on a sailboat. It was the sailboat of Dr. Marvin's daughter and her friends. I still hear him shouting to Dr. Marvin as they sail on by him, "I'm sailing, I'm sailing, look I'm a sailor, I sail" while the look on Richard Dreyfuss' face is priceless.

He sailed and now I'm here announcing "I blog, I blog, I'm a blogger, look, look."

Will anyone laugh when they too recall this movie?

Once i saw Bill Murray in a serious role and I just kept waiting and waiting and wondering why I didn't get the joke. (there wasn't one) I kept thinking it's Bill Murray I should be rofl. Spoiled the whole movie for me.

FINALLY, I BLOG

Is there a good way to start a blog. My plan is to somehow advertise with Adsense. Step one not unreasonably is to write things others will elect to actually read. I can do that. I have done that. A few articles on Triond have had over 500 clicks. Woo hoo, that'll getcha $1.24.

I'm passionate about certain topics and write with feeling. For a new writer it's often hard to allow the world access to your deepest feelings. I do love writing advertising copy. I guess in a blog, I'm advertising my words and ability to put them together in a way that flows pleasantly as the reader browses through them.

Perhaps I'll begin with a pay per click article I have published on Triond. Not many fellow bloggers read them on Triond or Helium therefore if no one reads them here, how much worse off will I be.

Everyone loves to travel. Everyone who lives in a colder climate loves to travel to a lovely tropical island where the water is 80 degrees and the people are warm and welcoming.
